‘Black America Again,’ starring Common and directed by Bradford Young, wins LAFF Best Short Documentary

Thursday, the Los Angeles Film Festival announced its winners. Respective of Shadow & Act’s interests, we’re noting that the award for Best Short Documentary went to Black America Again, directed by cinematographer extraordinaire Bradford Young and produced by Ava DuVernay. Young and DuVernay worked together on Selma.

In Young’s directorial debut, Common stars in the short doc and provides the music. Originally released in November, Black America Again is  “a visual celebration of the beauty, strength, perseverance and spirit of the black community in these troubling times,” inspired by Common’s eleventh studio album of the same name. The album was also a favorite among music critics.
